Bahk Seon Ghi
On February 22, 2001, Bahk Seon-Ghi inaugurated his first solo show of work at the Galleria Lawrence Rubin, having been included in a group show there in 1998 and in partnership with Milanese painter Jonathan Guaitamacchi in 2000. The exhibition was conceived especially for the gallery space and includes panels, drawings, sculptures, and installations. The young Korean artist’s favored material is charcoal. which this time he has inserted with fake grass and situated on structures of gesso or fiberglass. Bahk Seon-Ghi draws on the immense cultural and artistic patrimony of the twentieth century with great freedom, Arte Povera and oriental calligraphy in particular. His ironic, open-minded approach has catapulted him to fame in next to no time and his work can already be found in important Italian collections. He participated at the 2001 Venice Biennale in a show adjacent to the Arsenale.
