Rafael Goldchain "Familial Ground"

Curator: Carolyn Bell Farrell.
Familiar Ground is an autobiographical installation by Rafael Goldchain, in which the artist explores his Latin American Jewish identity. Several bodies of work contribute to his investigations: a series of digitally altered self-portraits; reproductions of pages from the artist’s sketchbook; sound installations; and videos incorporating new and archival footage. While gathering fragments of this history, he acknowledges that it is impossible to retrieve that which is lost and forgotten, and that the reconstructive process itself, unavoidably involves a mixture of memory, artifice and invention.
