Elio Santarella red fetish a new-york

Curated by Maria Grazia Torri.
Elio Santarella’s artistic career began in Taranto. On moving to Milan in 1963 he had his first brush with Pop Art and became one of the first Italian artists to produce hyperrealist works, and to contribute to the development of Mec Art with his emulsioned canvases; from 1985 he started to produce pieces in neon on acrylic canvas, thus strengthening and empowering his images.
Santarella has fifty solo shows to his credit, the first of which was held in 1965 and was curated by Enrico Baj. In 1971, at the Galleria Cortina in Milan, he held a solo show, Paesaggi del corpo umano, curated by Pierre Restany. Again in Milan in 1977, his exhibition of emulsioned canvases, Viaggi all'interno del personale, curated by Tommaso Inni, was held at the Galleria del Naviglio. In 1984, he showed at the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, where Marina Corgnati and Sergio Dangelo curated an exhibition of his nudes, titled Dintorni. In 1987, the Chiostro di Valtorre in Gavirate was the setting for a display of Santarella’s “large-scale acrylic canvases and televisual nudes,” curated by Guido Ballo. In 1993, Bergamo City Council held the exhibition nudineon, curated by Pierre Restany, which offered a selection of the artist’s acrylic canvases with colored neon insertions. In 1994, Pietrasanta City Council held the exhibition Segni & Visioni, a collection of Tuscan landscapes; while in December of the same year, he represented Italy for the second time at the International ArtFestival in Seoul, together with Enrico Baj, Francesco Clemente, and Mimmo Rotella. In 1985 [non e` 1995?], Taranto City Council organized a retrospective exhibition at the Castello Aragonese titled Metafore mediterranee. Santarella has since showed in Abissola, Milan, and various other art exhibitions both at home and abroad. Between 1970 and 1990 he has participated in group exhibitions or held solo shows in Paris, Brussels, Barcelona, Bratislava, Zagreb, Lugano, Rabat, Seoul, and New York. Santarella’s artistic career has extended beyond painting to include installations, ceramics, glassworks, panels, and collaborations with architects and set designers. Since 1992 he has been actively involved in promoting culture with Milan’s City Council. He also contributed to various magazines in the sector and endorses exhibitions and shows of art.
