Domenico Monteforte De Rerum Natura
This important and evocative title is perfectly suited to the fascinating exhibition of Domenico Monteforte’s work at the Galleria Lazzaro by Corsi, which explores “natural things.”
In fact, nature is Monteforte’s muse. The artist does not, however, reproduce nature “photographically.” Instead, he works from his memories of the bewitching multitude of colors he encounters while walking in the countryside, elaborating on them when he returns to his studio.
Standing before a particular group of autumnal trees or standing in front of a seemingly endless field of sunflowers, Monteforte is captive. It is his eyes and his heart that hold him captive. Later, with intense, rapid strokes of the brush, he captures on canvas that blend of memory and feeling, returning images of nature to the viewer, which are essentially more dreamlike than real, but which are always infused with great lyricism.
His is a veiled poetic of nostalgia for a pure, unspoiled beauty.
The brilliant colors of Monteforte’s palette burst forth from this “movement of the soul.” They are the true and intense symbol of his work, serving as witness to the strength and serenity of nature.
In short, Monteforte’s paintings are anthems for life.
