Greta Frau Trance Party

Former Warehouses, Via dei Magazzini Generali 8/bis, Rome

Rome’s “night of excess,” The Ball Show, is a monthly event in which live-art, video installation, disco, and club action mix happily under the curatorial eye of the M.A.R.C.O. team (MARCO is an acronym for Manufactured, Adapted, Recognized, Commercialized, Organized).
Greta Frau, famous painter and preacher of Beauty, was April’s special guest. Frau, whose true identity remains a mystery due to her non-appearance in public, is represented by an ever-changing array of faces, reputed to be old school friends. These are the followers of the sect founded by the artist, La Classe delle Trance (The Class of Slices). Subjects of an infinite series of portraits in which they appears as young schoolgirls, it is the mission of the “Trance” (“Slices/Cutters” [vedi sopra]) to spread the thoughts of their leader, thoughts which focus obsessively on the theme of Beauty. To diffuse the values of Beauty to an ever-greater public, to increase the number of “Trance” disciples, and subsequently to create even more portraits of those disciples, was the scope of this particular evening’s event. By choosing a club venue, Frau once again displays a desire to throw open the arena of Art and Thought and stimulate a fresh, new dialogue with the public.
The two DJ outfits produce a sophisticated, new wave sound: techno/house on the upper floor by resident DJ M.A.R.C.O. and, on the lower floor, electronic disco by Francesco De Bellis.
