The activity of the art gallery Il Chiostro starts in October 1988 with an exhibition of the painter Filippo de Pisis. The owners Duilio Affanni and his daughter have set the exhibition programme on the alteration of major representatives of the Italian XX century and contemporary artists.
As regards to the historicized artists, they arranged important exhibition appointments, provided with catalogues with relevant historical and critical texts: the solo exhibitions of Marino Marini, Carlo Carrà, Mario Sironi, Aroldo Bonzagni, Lucio Fontana, Angelo Del Bon, Francesco De Rocchi or the theme exhibition, such as Azzurro and Connecting (from Italy and from America). As to the painters Del Bon and De Rocchi, the gallery has become in the years an important point of reference for art collectors: knowledge of the production, offer of works, filing of documents. There are also permanent exhibitions of two main artists, belonging to the group of Chiarismo: Umberto Lillioni and Adriano di Spilimbergo.Very interesting is the attention, addressed to the expressions of the Abstractionism, since it enables the visitor to make a comparison between the trends of figuration and of abstract art, mainly represented by Mario Radice and Mauro Reggiani, and by artists of the Informal trend, including Lucio Fontana, Mark Tobey and Tancredi.
The gallery exclusively arranges the activity of two contemporary artists: the Peruvian Jorge Eielson, famous for his Quipus in knotted cloth, and the Italian Ferdinando Greco, who has been carrying out for years a research on the possibility to put together the urban element with the poetic need of the artist, as in the work series Paesaggi portati via (Landscapes carried away). One of the latest successful events in this space was the exhibition of Folon in
November-December 1999: the Belgian artist wanted to put side by side his famous aquarelles and a range of sculptures, which showed his latest production.
Since the occasion of the exhibition, a co-operation relationship got started and the art collector may permanently find works by Folon at Il Chiostro.
The gallery is regularly invited to take part in the two most important fairs of this sector in Italy: Artefiera in Bologna and Miart in Milan.
The expertise and the evaluation services of the works, offered by the gallery’s staff in charge, are free, just like the filing of documents and of the works of the following artists: De Rocchi, Del Bon and Eielson.
