Montrasio Arte antica & moderna

Gallery view

Founded in 1939 with the activity of Piero and Luigi Montrasio and located in Via Carlo Alberto, the gallery Montrasio has arranged important exhibitions of the XIX century painters, of the school in Piedmont of the Macchiaioli, proposing above all the works of the major Lombard artists from neoclassicism to Scapigliatura.
In 1963, under the guidance of Alberto Montrasio, the gallery experienced a lively exhibition season, dedicated to contemporary art, with over 300 both solo and group exhibitions, always supported by the official critics. For the first time, they brought in Monza the major artists of the “middle generation”. One of the first experience gathered under the title Pittori Lombardi (Lombard Painters), among the others, the following artists: Bruno Cassinari, Gino Meloni, Ennio Morlotti, Gianni Dova and Roberto Crippa. The first contacts with the artists of the “Existential Realism”, which developed in Milan, dated back to that same period: period in which develop lasting friendship and work relationships with the artists.
Among the outstanding solo exhibitions, there is the first absolute homage to the artist Tancredi after his death; then follow the ones of Karl Plattner, Gino Meloni, Lucio Fontana, Fausto Melotti, Emilio Scanavino, Alfredo Chighine and many more. During the Nineties, relationships have gotten stronger with the great protagonists of Italian art, internationally known: Leonardo Cremonini, Gianfranco Ferroni, Giuseppe Zigaina, even owing to the work of Ruggero Montrasio, who represents nowadays the third generation of the gallery. The new location was inaugurated in September 1999 with a large exhibition, dedicated to great artists, whom the gallery closely works with, three painters and two sculptors: Leonardo Cremonini, Gianfranco Ferroni, Giuseppe Zigaina, Floriano Bodini, Augusto Perez. The exhibition is the outcome of a ten-year co-operation and the starting point for the activity of the new millennium.
From march 2001 it's opened with the group exhibition Realismi a new space in Milan, via Brera 5 (tel. 02 878448, fax 878522, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-7pm).
