The Art Gallery Il Castello, founded in 1960, has always accurately cared for the most significant aspects of modern art, without neglecting some aimed incursions in abstract and informal. During 40 years of exhibitions and suggestions, the gallery has set up solo exhibitions of all the major artists, who have done the history of Italian painting of the XX century. Besides National Artists, even foreign and young artists have been presented. The recent solo exhibitions of Hermann Albert, Giorgio Morandi and Giovanni Frangi confirm the ‘historical’ trend of the gallery. Finally, special attention is addressed to the spreading and to the reassessment of ‘local’ artists, featuring a great painting impact: Bonazza, Dallabrida, Garbari, Polo, Depero, Baldessari, Poggioli. The volume “Dizionario degli Artisti Trentini” (Dictionary of Trentine Artists) between XIX and XX century bears witness of this commitment.
