ESSO Gallery was established in 1996 with the purpose of exhibiting international emerging and under-exposed contemporary artists of all ages. The gallery was founded in a loft on the top floor of a commercial manufacturing building at 191 Chrystie Street, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, East of Soho, hence ESSO. In the year 2000 the building in which ESSO gallery was located has been bought by an english artist (whose work in the real estate market seems more succesfull that his one in the artworld) and has lost the lease and the space. Fortunately there are million ways of being and ESSO is becoming Gallery and Bookshop and is in the process of relocating to the above address. The Gallery is owned and directed by Jennifer Bacon and Filippo Fossati. ESSO Gallery and Books 211 West 28th Street New York NY 10001 tel.
