Terms of Engagement – Los Angeles and Urban Design
Terms of Engagement selectively and provocatively explores the diversity of Urban Design in Los Angeles, visually describing how people go about making the city visible to its inhabitants. Surveying the changing scale of urban interventions over time, the exhibition features, among other projects, Olmsted’s proposed open space study of the 1930’s overlaying Boston’s Emerald Necklace on a map of the Los Angeles basin; Martha Welbourne’s study for a comprehensive Express Busway network for L.A. County; Doug Suisman’s proposal for a linear park in the centre of Grand Avenue atop Bunker Hill; and James Rojas’ study of the interface between private and public space in East L.A.. Organized by John Dale, Ben Caffey and the Urban Design Committee of the L.A. chapter of the American Institute of Architecture.
