Angelo Marino founded the Dirarte gallery, whose title is an abbreviation of “discussions about art,” in 1991 and is still at the helm today. The gallery’s modus operandi more closely resembles that of a cultural association, seeking, as it does, to avoid being influenced in its artistic choices by the so-called art world. The gallery adopts a very open-minded approach to the work it exhibits, starting from the undeniable premise that in the complex, multi-medial context of today’s society more artists than ever before are drawing on a vast variety of expressive means (painting, video, photography, PC applications, etc.). The only truly strict criterion regulating Dirarte’s choice of exhibiting artists is that the work must be of the very highest standard. Besides organizing solo shows by young Italian and European artists, Dirarte also aims to heighten public awareness of the field in which it deals, seeking to raise modern and contemporary art issues as discussion points in seminars and to focus on the movements, trends, and individual artists who have shaped and who currently shape the art of the last fifty years. The gallery is open to collaborations with other institutions at both a national and international level, and participates regularly at art fairs.
