Sotheby’s, London hold their sale of the Reba and Dave Williams Collection of modern and contemporary prints on the 8th of November. Of particular note is a rare etching by Lucian Freud dating from 1948 entitled Ill in Paris, estimated at $ 36,000-43,250 (€ 40,620-48,740) as well as Ben Nicholson’s ICI Shed at $ 5,000-5,800 (€ 5,700-6,500), William Wadsworth’s Drydocked For Scaling and Painting at $ 7,200-8,650 (€ 11,700-14,000), Henry Moore’s Frieze of Dancing Women at $ 8,650-11,530 (€ 9,750-13,000) and Richard Hamilton’s Adonis in Y-Fronts at $ 2,890-4,320 (€ 3,250-4,880). Susan Harris, Director of Sotheby’s print department in London, said “this is the most exciting collection of 20th century British prints to have ever come onto the market.” The collection also includes a substantial number of US and Mexican prints which were exhibited at Alliance Capital’s New York offices and British works in the company’s Mayfair premises in London.
