Christie’s sales of Post War art in London on the 6th and 7th of February made a total of $10.5 million (€12 million) and saw Mark Rothko’s painting No. 15 by become the highest seller of the two days, raising $2.35 million (€2.67 million). Works by Francis Bacon also did well with three paintings by the artist making a total of $2.72 million (€3.1 million) with the best of these being Portrait of Man with Glasses IV which sold for $1.27 million (€1.45 million), treble its pre-sale estimate. One of Andy Warhol’s series of paintings entitled Judy Garland fetched $633,780 (€720,920) and shows the renewed interest in the artist with a retrospective of the artist’s work running at the Tate Modern, London (sponsored by UBS Warburg) until the 1st of April.
