A cash prize of between $ 2,850 and 4,760 (€ 3,100-5,160) will be competed for in the 41st edition of the Premio Suzzara. Founded in 1948 and dedicated to the theme of “Work and Workers in Art”, the prize is divided into two sections. The first is selected by a committee, while the second is an open selection. A third of the participants come from outside Europe, including Brahim Khanous (Morocco), a participant in the Venice Biennial, as well as Peter M Wanjau (Kenya), Virginia Ryan (Australia), Reinata Sadimba (Madagascar), Silvia Sevenson and Florencia Martinez (Argentina). The three winning artists will receive prize money ranging from $ 2,850-3,800-4,760 (€ 3,100-4,130-5,160) respectively, whilst the winner of the open competition will receive $ 2,380 (€ 2,580) - with the opportunity to hold an exhibition in the Suzzara Gallery of Contemporary Art in Mantua. The winners will be chosen on the 16th of December 2001 and their works will become part of the gallery collection. Nominated works will be on view from the 16th of September. (Elena Balzani)
