Following the opening of Vienna's new cultural district in June, the second opening phase in the MuseumsQuartier Wien (MQ) has been proceeding as planned. The reopening of the Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien (MUMOK) on September the 15th , 2001 kicked off the second phase, followed by the Leopold Museum (designed by Ortner & Ortner with a total area of 12,600 m˛, of which 5,400 m˛ are used for exhibiting purposes) on the 22nd and the ZOOM Kindermuseum on the 29th with new or wholly renovated facilities. The new Tanzquartier Wien, a new contemporary dance and performance centre, and the new Architekturzentrum Wien will be inaugurated mid October. (James Goulder)
