The 20th of November sees Finarte auction house, Milan offer its sale of important Old Master paintings, with the top work being Paolo Uccello’s (1397-1475) Saint Monaca with two small boys. Measuring 79 x 35 cm this tempera on panel is one of the few authenticated works by the artist ever to have appeared on the market and is expected to exceed $ 1.13 million (€ 1.29 million). Also of note are Jacopino del Conte’s Portrait of a young woman ( an oil on panel, 66 x 51 cm) estimated at $ 88,000-132,000 (€ 100,000-150,000), and Benvenuto Tisi called Garafalo’s Holy family with Saint Andrew (oil on panel, 56 x 44 cm), estimated at $ 52,800-66,000 (€ 60,000-75,000). Later works include two caravaggesti: an Adoration of the shepherds by Matthias Stomer (1600-1650), (oil on canvas, 133 x 178 cm) estimated at $ 110,000-132,000 (€ 125,000-150,000) and Saint Peter by Gerrit van Honthorst (1690-1656), (oil on canvas, 109 x 97 cm) at $ 96,830-110,000 (€ 110,000-125,000). Also of note are two landscapes by Luca Carlevarijs (1663-1730): both oils on canvas measuring cm 67.5 x 81.5 cm and priced at $ 88,000-220,070 (€ 100,000-250,000). (Andrew Moore)
