“The unseen Brera” is an initiative of the Milanese Pinacoteca that will bring to the public’s eyes, in a cycle of quarterly exhibitions, works that have not yet found a permanent place in the rooms of the museum. The initiative was inaugurated on the 1st of December with the display in the 19th Century hall of two recently acquired large canvases of the historical Romanticism period: Pietro Rossi Signore di Parma spogliato dei suoi domini dagli Scaligeri by Francesco Hayez and La partenza di Cristoforo Colombo da Palos by Pelagio Palagi. The works were bought last year for $ 622,400 (€ 697,200) at the behest of the Superintendent Bruno Contardi who accepted the sale offer of the Turin heirs of Giorgio Pallavicino Trivulzi, the man who had commissioned and first owned both canvases.
