According to the “New York Times” Robert Hughes, the Australian art critic for “Time” magazine, has been approached by Italy's minister of culture about being the artistic director of the 2003 Venice Biennale replacing Harald Szeemann, who held the job for the 1999 and 2001 editions of the Biennale. “I would probably concentrate on painting and sculpture primarily, but that wouldn't preclude video or other types of art. It will not be predictable and boring. But rather the reverse." Mr. Hughes commented. He hopes plans will be made final soon so that he can begin working on the Biennale by the end of the summer.
