Images of Campbell's Soup Can and Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol have been thrown up on billboards all across London (from the 17th of January, 2002) as part of a new British television arts series on the life and work of this Pop Art Icon. Channel 4 begins a three-part series entitled 'Andy Warhol: The Complete Picture' on the 27th of January to coincide with a major retrospective of the artist's work at London's Tate Modern gallery that opens on the 7th of February. The TV station Channel 4 was given permission to display Warhol's work on more than 50 billboards in the UK capital by the Warhol Foundation, but did not disclose the level of royalties payable to the estates of some of his subjects, including Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. Meanwhile the Tate Modern gallery has also signed up a deal with Channel 4’s rival, BBC television. Tate @ BBC is a venture whereby new art projects, such as Tate exhibitions and displays, will be developed collaboratively. To launch the venture, the BBC internet site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/tate) now features sections on the Turner Prize winner Martin Creed and promotional sections on the Tate’s current and forthcoming exhibitions.
