Although not exhilarating, the annual balance of Finarte auction house for 2001 is nonetheless positive (+3% on 2000). The comparison between the sale results of 2001 and those of the previous year emphasises the strong increase registered in the old master paintings and drawings department (+ 38,1%). Paolo Uccello’s Santa Monaca e due fanciulli oranti contributed to this success, hammering at € 1.588.363 ($ 1.417.000) and setting the Italian auction record for the sale of a work of art. On the contrary, the modern and contemporary art (- 7,3%) and 19th century art (-21,6%) departments registered a drop. (Annalisa Rossi)
