The French auction house Etude Tajan registered a positive annual turnover for 2001 with a balance of € 95.4 million ($ 85.1 million) and an increase of 12.34 % in comparison to 2000. As concerns the sale of works of art, the old master paintings department totalled € 1.4 million ($ 1.3 million), with the major success being Marie Madeleine, an oil on canvas attributed to Artemisia Gentileschi, sold for € 261,400 ($ 233,100). The 19th and 20th paintings and sculptures department also showed a positive turnover, with a total of € 2.3 million ($ 2.1 million). Le grand canal a Venise, a painting by Albert Marquet from 1936, registered the best performance selling at € 383,500 ($ 341,900). (Annalisa Rossi)
