According to sources in the Italian police force, many works entering the market by the modern artists Schifano, Cascella, Sassu, De Chirico and Brindisi, are believed to be fakes. Thousands of works are reported to have slipped through both police and auction controls, with a subsequent drop in prices due to a saturation of the market.
